Face masks to protect you and your loved ones from a bird flu pandemic.
...Your first line of defense against an Avian Flu Pandemic

"How could anyone believe that something this tiny could be so dangerous?"

Meet H5N1

This pint sized bully is so small you need a microscope to see him, yet he's terrorizing health officials all over the globe.

Remember the media hype over Y2K? Sold a lot of newspapers. Made a few people very wealthy. But nothing else. So it's no surprise that people are skeptical when they first hear about the bird flu.

After all, isn't this the 21st century? Hasn't modern medicine licked the big killers of the past, such as TB, Polio, Scarlet Fever, Smallpox?

This is just a flu bug...right? Surely it's not something to get too excited over.

But I was curious enough to do my homework. I started researching online. There was no lack of information.

Top virologists, it seems, have been warning of a catastrophic pandemic for some time. Turns out they happen every 30-40 years. Always have. Always will.

The last big one in 1918 killed somewhere between 50 and 100 million people.

Quotes like the following sent chills up and down my spine...

Oprah discusses Bird Flu with Dr. Michael Osterholm

"An influenza pandemic of even moderate impact will result in the biggest single human disaster ever - far greater than AIDS, 9/11, all wars in the 20th century and the recent tsunami combined. It has the potential to redirect world history as the Black Death redirected European history in the 14th century."

-- Michael T. Osterholm, Director, Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota

  • I bought John Hart's book, "Bird Flu - Get Ready Now" and read that health officials are all saying we're overdue for another big one. They're saying "not if, but when".

  • I discovered that the H5N1 kills 50% of everyone who becomes infected and right now it's winging its way around the world inside migrating wild birds.

  • I discovered that China, the country that tried to hide the SARS problem, is once again refusing to divulge how serious it has become within its borders, where underground sources are saying that hundreds of people have already died.

All that's needed for a pandemic to begin is for the virus to re-assort so that it can be passed easily from human to human. Some virologists believe this has may already have taken place in China.

An H5N1 Flu Panemic would make the Boxing Day Tsunami look like a toddler with a bad attitude.

Is Survival Just a Matter of Luck?

"Clifford Adams remembered 'bodies stacked up ...stacked up out to be buried.... They couldn't bury them.' The bodies backed up more and more, backed up in the houses, were put outside on porches.

The city morgue had room for thirty-six bodies. Two hundred were stacked there. The stench was terrible; doors and windows were thrown open. No more bodies could fit. Bodies lay in homes where they died, as they died, often with bloody liquid seeping from the nostrils or mouths. Families covered the bodies in ice; even so the bodies began to putrify and stink. Tenements had no porches; few had fire escapes. Families closed off rooms where a body lay, but a closed door could not close out the knowledge and the horror of what lay behind the door. In much of the city, a city more short of housing than New York, people had no room that could be closed off. Corpses were wrapped in sheets, pushed into corners, left there sometimes for days, the horror of it sinking in deeper each hour, people too sick to cook for themselves, too sick to clean themselves, too sick to more the corpse off the bed, lying alive on the same bed with the corpse. The dead lay there for days, while the living lived with them, were horrified by them, and, perhaps most horribly, became accustomed to them.

Symptoms were terrifying. Blood poured from noses, ears, eye sockets; some victims lay in agony; delirium took others away while living."

...From The Great Influenza, by John M. Barry.

Have you ever lost a pet?

    Most everyone has.

You know the horrible anguish. The pain that you know will never go away. The inconsolable sense of loss.

    But the worst?

    It's the guilt.

It was your job to protect this innocent creature that depended on you for everything, and you'd failed miserably. And you felt so utterly useless and helpless knowing there was nothing you could have done to prevent it.

Losing a child or a loved one would be a thousand times worse.

I can't even begin to imagine it.

But to have it happen when you could have prevented it would be an impossible burden to bear.

So when I finished doing my research and admitted that H5N1 was a real threat, I vowed that if I did nothing else, I was at least going to protect my family.

    Currently there is NO CURE!

    There's no vaccine for H5N1.

We can't even begin to manufacture one until the virus re-assorts and we know it's ultimate structural makeup. And from that point on it will take 6-8 months before a vaccine of any quantity can be made available.

And governments will be powerless to halt H5N1. Katrina taught us that.

I decided that I couldn't count on anyone else. As the family head I realized that it was MY responsibility to do whatever I had to do to keep my loved ones safe.

    I started buying supplies.

  • We have a cold room in the basement and I
put up extra shelving to store it all.
TAMIFLU - Available once again to
the general public. Order yours now.

The only known way to protect yourself against the virus
is to avoid contact with it or by preventing it
from spreading through your body with anti viral
    drugs such as Tamiflu

  • I bought flour and rice and cases of canned goods. Dried vegetables and fruits. Powdered milk. I didn't go out and spend a ton of money. I just bought extra stuff every time we went shopping. It quickly adds up.

By the way, I'm not some gun-toting crazed survivalist.

Just an average guy trying to do what's best for his family. I do happen to own a gun, but to tell you the truth, I've never even shot it.

  • I bought enough Tamiflu for everyone.

  • I found an online source for face masks and put in an order that would provide us all with enough masks for a 3-4 month period, and then I doubled it so I would have more to hand out and to trade with others.

  • Both my wife and myself were vaccinated for the current flu strain.

  • We're planning on quarantining ourselves for the duration, at least to the extent that it's possible. We'll certainly avoid crowds. And we'll be wearing our face masks, goggles and gloves when that's not possible.

We think this is the path to survival that everyone should take, providing that it's an option.

To many it may not be.

There's a lot of planning involved. You need food, water, supplies, medicines for at least a 3 month period.

By preparing now, you and your loved ones CAN survive.

The best chances of survival will most certainly be realized by those who start preparing now. Once a pandemic hits, all bets will be off.

  • Stores will no longer have food.
  • It will be impossible to buy face masks.
  • The economy will be in a shambles.
  • Travel will be restricted.
  • Martial law will be imposed.

It will be a very, very dangerous scenario.

If your situation requires you to be in contact with others, you MUST wear a face mask!

This is your first line of defense against the bird flu.

By stocking up on face masks you'll be giving yourself and your loved ones a protective barrier from the deadly pathogens associated with this disease.

You'll also be providing protection from the other common way that people contract the virus -- from their fingers.

When someone sneezes, droplets spread throughout the room, eventually landing on surfaces such as counter tops, tables, etc. We're constantly touching these surfaces and transmitting pathogens to our mouth.

As an experiment, try going for an hour without touching your lips, nose, or eyes.

By wearing a mask, you'll be preventing this type of transmission which is especially prevalent amongst children.

Alpha Pro Tech N-95 Particulate Respirator

Here's a mask that's not only very comfortable, but it's also one of the most economical N95 Niosh approved masks that we've been able to find.

Alpha Pro Tech N-95 Face Mask
The Alpha Pro Tech N-95 Particulate Respirator, designed specifically for use in a healthcare setting, is NIOSH-approved as a Type N95 respirator and meets CDC guidelines for TB exposure control.

It has been tested in accordance to Title 42 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 84 (42 CFR 84), which is tested at 0.3 micron size particles at 85 liters a minute. All N-95 respirators must pass this test with no more than 5% penetration.

It has also been tested by Latex Particle Challenge at 0.1 micron size particle and has shown a filtration efficiency of greater than 99.98% at 0.1 micron.

    One-Size-Fits-All

To help you reduce costs and inventory, the N-95 Respirator uses an exclusive Magic Arch/Positive Facial Lock “one-size-fits-all” design. This unique design feature permits the respirator to be “custom fit” to virtually any face, no matter what shape or size.

The traditional pleated style N-95 offers all this without the drawbacks of cone and duckbill-style respirators which restrict downward vision and collapse easily when stored.

  • Integral Magic Arch® — Provides a larger breathing chamber with no restriction of downward vision as duckbill or cone masks do.

  • Positive Facial Lock® (PFL) — Allows total facial closure for "custom fit" on any size face when donned correctly.

  • Totally Latex Free — Comfortable, knit tricot mesh covered bands contain no natural rubber latex, eliminating latex allergy concerns.

  • Traditional Pleated Design — Saves inventory space, cannot be crushed when stored, as duckbill and cone respirators can, and is easy to carry with you.

  • The most economical Niosh certified mask that we've been able to find.

  • Great for personal use or for trading.

  • Keep a supply handy for handing out to others.

  • US$44.95 for box of 35 masks

    How many will you need?

This, of course, depends on where you live and how often you'll be coming into contact with others.

If you live in a high rise and share a common elevator, you'll certainly want to wear a mask every time you leave your apartment. If you live in suburbia you might only need to put on a mask when you go shopping. Do you work in a setting that brings you into regular contact with others? If so you might want to stock up on enough to provide you with 2 or 3 changes per day.

Stocking up on face masks is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure the safety of your family. We urge you not to delay in making this decision. Demand for this product is too strong for us to be able to maintain this low price for very much longer.

"Don't let your first impressions of this mask fool you.

Inside of a box that's only 8"x3"x3.5" they have somehow managed to pack 35 NIOSH approved masks, all folded up as tightly as Kleenex.

Pull one out and you'd be hard pressed to guess that this is a face mask. It's a rectangle 8" long by 3" wide and maybe 1/8" thick. You could stuff a dozen of these in your purse or coat pocket and not even know they were there.

The magic occurs when you open it up. (The box comes with photo instructions) Suddenly you have a 3 dimensional shape that's light as a feather that you can place on your face, secured by two straps that go around the back of your head.

We were amazed at how well this mask fit. Many masks have a strip of malleable aluminum on the nosepiece, but this mask goes one further. Its strip extends around the whole perimeter of the mask, which makes it super easy to create a good, tight fit.

Breathing was probably the easiest of any masks that we have tried, and that includes ones equipped with a valve. There is a built in arc which provides ample space between your nose/mouth and the mask. This is a mask that one could wear comfortably for hours.

There is very little obstruction around the top of the nose, which allows for freedom of vision and would allow you to wear goggles.

Some people question whether N95 masks will give you adequate protection as the H5N1 virus is smaller than the 30 micron limit that the mask is rated for.

However, during the SARS outbreak these masks were quite effective in reducing the incidence of the disease in nurses who were wearing them in Toronto and Singapore.

The reason for their effectiveness was due to the fact that the virus was attached to droplets or other particles that were larger than 30 microns.

There are lots of other N95 rated respirators out there. Expect to pay a lot more for them though. If you plan on going to work as usual and want a mask that you can wear all day, they might be a better choice. But any mask should be disposed of once you take it off, as its surface will now be contaminated with deadly pathogens. That might be hard to do when you're paying several dollars per mask.

At just over a dollar per mask, we think the Alpha Pro Tech N-95 is the best bargain around."

    Masks as Currency!

Since commerce will be severely interrupted during a pandemic, bartering will become the accepted means of exchange. Having a good supply of face masks will give you a commodity that will enable you to trade with others.

Don't delay. When a pandemic hits it will be impossible to find masks at any price!

    Caution:

No face mask will give you 100% assurance of safety. However selected wisely and used correctly, they provide your best chance of survival outside of totally isolating yourself from others.
